Rooted in Gary, Indiana and guided by the principles of Greater Service and Greater Progress, our chapter has served the community with dedication, scholarship, and sisterhood for generations.
Who We Are
Welcome to the home of the amazing ladies of the Alpha Sigma Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
In 1924, in the neophyte city of Gary, Indiana, Epsilon Chapter was formed. It was organized at the home of Grace Smith by National Organizer, Homer Woods. It was the first Black Greek letter organization in the City of Gary.
As the country grew and standards of education changed too, the sorority also changed and grew to distinguish Graduate Chapters and Undergraduate Chapters.
Alpha Sigma Sigma Chapter for over 100 years continues the legacy of service to the Gary community.

Our Mission
It is the mission of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. to enhance the quality of life for women and their families in the U.S. and globally through community service, civil, and social action. Our goal is to achieve greater progress in the areas of education, health awareness, and leadership development. Our members, affiliates, staff, and community partners work to create and support initiatives that align with our vision.
